I was born in country Victoria and moved to Melbourne just before turning 4. At school my time was split between academics, sports, drama and choir. I also competed at National level in Judo in my teens.
At University I completed a Bachelor of Science, pursued acting classes and continued to play a variety of sports. I have been a Medical Scientist, tutor, University lecturer, teacher and worked in customer service in a variety of roles. Mother, sister, daughter, teammate, wife (now ex), friend, Aunty and soulmate are all me too. I have loved writing poetry since my teens, when during those difficult times I used poetry to express how I was feeling. Reading only became a passion after leaving school, along with it came a strong desire to write. My writing and poetry is about connecting with people and my hope is that it could make a difference in the lives of others. I was once told by a teacher I would never write anything worth reading. He was wrong! |
What's Your Story?
I am a 51 year old mother of two boys. I've been a Medical Scientist, University Lecturer, Tutor, Teacher and now am involved in customer service. I love to learn new skills and expand my mind by exploring ideas like the law of attraction, meditation and listening to others views. I have taken acting classes, i read a lot of books and love to travel as much as i can afford. My favorite thing to do is write, both poetry and stories. I was lucky enough to be asked to write a dedication poem about a famous surgeon which has been published in the front of a book and approved by the family. I've written two as yet unpublished books and write poetry for friends. I have attached one of my poems which may be of value to this project. A poem i wrote to my teenage son. Writing is my way of expressing myself and connecting with others. My dream is that my stories can help others feel less alone. My ultimate goal is that one of my stories my help some one today or in the future. What is the toughest decision you have ever made? To leave my professional careers behind and take a job that allowed me as a single parent to be there when my children needed me but was not mentally challenging or stimulating and paid significantly less. What is the easiest decision you have ever made? I don't think any decision I make is easy. I have a tendency to over analyse every decision I make. This is something i can laugh about though Who is your role model and why? I don't have one role model rather i am inspired by a number of different people all for different reasons. I take inspiration to better myself as a person. You cant compare the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey and Robin Williams but they all have had an impact on my life. I am inspired by Nick Vujicic and Turia Pitt for their ability to overcome extreme adversity. At the same time i am also inspired by my boys for the small but still difficult challenges they have overcome. What is your SUPER Power? My kids would say my hearing especially when they don't want me to hear something. I would say my intuition and my ability to know when i need to investigate further. When have you been the most satisfied in your life? When i'm writing every day whether its poetry or books. What things do you not like to do? Housework and gardening. What is the most important thing about what you want to do? That I leave people better than before they met me. That i can connect with people, that they feel less alone and that I can offer them some insight that is of value. That perhaps my stories, poems or writing may somehow leave a mark on this world. Do you believe books can change the world? Most definitely!! They changed mine and many others I know. What is your ultimate goal? To be able to write each day and not have to worry about how to pay the bills. If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? The divide between the rich and the poor. Everyone should be afforded the same chance to live a happy and fulfilled life. However "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer." I hope one day for a world closer to equality for all. What do you prefer? Beach or Mountains? Beaches (The sand in my toes and watching the waves) Sweet or spicy? Sweet (for my sweet tooth) Window or aisle? Window (I like to see where i am going) Ice-Cream or Custard? Ice-Cream (preferably Licorice) Dessert First or last? Dessert (you need to finish a meal with the best things in life) |
What Ripple Effect Would you start in the world and why?
Provide a compliment to someone everyday. Something about them, their personality or appearance so they feel special because everyone is. It might just make the difference in their day that they needed. Many lives could be saved or made better by just receiving a simple compliment. |
