Iain's main aim is to help organisations by making those ‘tough’ decisions and implementing more efficient processes in a holistic way by offering advice, guidance and actionable ideas. He does this by using "perception management" techniques which enables him to deliver effective solutions in highly competitive, rapidly changing business environments.

Always offering a fresh set of eyes and a sympathetic ear and provide impartial advice that draws on my varied experience, while giving simple yet effective actionable ideas that can actually be used in a business.

Iain is very passionate about communication and the use of psychology in business which is why he is in the process of "building a better mousetraps by developing an online business tool which will help both individual business owners and people like business coaches, business brokers and marketers improve the quality of the advice they give their clients. What's Your Story?

What's Your Story?

Many people say “You can’t put an old head on young shoulders”, and
yet that’s pretty much exactly what a sports coach is supposed to do.
Share their experience, so their athletes can remain calm, and make
better decisions in times of stress. I am driven to bring that model
into the rest of life – everyday life skills, work/business life,
parent/child relationships: everything.
That has ‘evolved’ from my lifelong search for “An easier way”. It
doesn’t make sense for me to do things the hard way – and I’ve seen
people put more effort into the wrong way than it takes to do things
the right way, and usually the ‘right’ way produces better results as
well.

So I believe everything can and should be politely challenged,
including those beliefs – that’s how we continually improve things.
I have worked in over 30 different industries covering most letters of
the alphabet, from junior levels up to senior management (Including
writing expert reports for the very highest levels of Government).

What is the toughest decision you have ever made?
To leave a safe, secure, guaranteed long-term Government job and move
into the Private Sector.

What is the easiest decision you have ever made?

Over 35 years ago I decided to cull those that were looking for “one
way” relationships. Still do, still impressed at the reduction of
stress that it brings.

Who is your role model and why?
At different times – nearly everybody I know. I was told at around age
21 that “Everybody on the planet can teach you ‘something’”. Having
been made aware of that, I have looked for the ‘something’ ever since,
and I nearly always find it.

What is your SUPER Power?
To see the simple solution that has so far evaded everyone else.

When have you been the most satisfied in your life?
Every time something worked out. A project completed, a student
applied their new knowledge, my knowledge and ability to implement
improved.

What things do you not like to do?

Waste either their time or mine.

What is the most important thing about what you want to do?
Changing the way people think will help reduce “-ism”s. Racism,
Sexism, Ageism, and all the rest – even Terrorism. Teaching better
ways to communicate means everyone will be understood, get the right
outcome, build closer relationships, and have more fun.

Do you believe books can change the world?
Yes. Assuming the wisdom in the books is put to practical use. They
are the mechanism whereby people can exchange experience and learning.
You don’t have to discover gravity, just read how Newton did it.

What is your ultimate goal?
Change the way the world does business. I realize that to achieve
that, I first need to change the way the world thinks. Think of Level
7 and above in Spiral dynamics.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
The power wielded by Red Level Spiral Dynamics people (by reducing it).

What do you prefer?

Beach or Mountains?
Mountains. The aroma of a recent gentle rain shower and brewed coffee…
(Thanks John).

Sweet or spicy?
Sweet food, and savoury food, and spicy food if it is well done. I
need to taste the ingredients, not just the heat of the sauce.
“Omnivorous” is a word that comes to mind!

Window or aisle?
Aisle. Easier to get up and stretch from there.

Ice-Cream or Custard?
Vanilla Ice Cream.

Dessert First or last?
Second last – followed by a good cheese board.

Everything is impossible. Until some clever person does it.

What Ripple Effect would you start in the world and Why?

Communication/Understanding. Real communication means that there is
understanding, and that means that all those us-versus-them "ism"s
disappear. And each of us can learn what to do in almost no time.
Imagine: a ripple of understanding racing around the world.
