Today Trevor Carll is interviewing me on my story to give you beautiful listeners an idea of where I’ve come from and why I do this podcast. Hear my story of breaking free of the rules of society and conforming with what’s seen as 'appropriate behaviour'. I believe stop being superwoman or superman and being busy for everyone else. What's Your Story?
On my fortieth birthday I climbed a mountain. I stood there 20 kilos lighter, a feeling of lightness, and full of purpose. It was my ignition point. I stood with my hands in the air getting my photo taken. I noticed that I was overcome with a feeling of peace and calmness, which I had not remembered the last time I felt this. If I go back before that time I had been directionless and felt alone even with the people that surrounded me. I had a beautiful daughter, wonderful partner and secure job. But I lacked purpose, passion and was very unhappy even though I thought that I shouldn’t be. The constant negative mind chatter emphasized my lack of love for myself. Fast forwarding to now at 49 I am living a life of purpose, adventure and fun and lightness. This I say came from that moment on the mountain where I realised I had been doing things or me in the last 18 months and now knew how to live the life I always dreamed of. My passion to help others do the same and make sure that I’m living every day with intention is key. What is the toughest decision you have ever made? To leave a secure job with the government and start my own business. What is the easiest decision you have ever made? That’s a hard one, once I realised what was important to me I now can make decisions easily. As long as they are in line with my values. Who is your role model and why? Role models can come in all shapes and sizes, well known, not well known. I believe you can learn something from everyone. Once I surrounded myself with the right people I found so many wonderful role models who have taught me so much about living life. What is your SUPER Power? My determination to succeed in what I put myself out there for. I have the ability to see any mistakes, failures etc as learnings and an opportunity to change direction. When have you been the most satisfied in your life? I am most satisfied with my life now. Everyday. No matter what happens I know I choose how it goes, what I do, how I react. I believe I’m on a journey to the end where I will live every day with volition and intention. What things do you not like to do? I don’t like to cook. What is the most important thing about what you want to do? To get people to stop having to feel like they have to be superman or superwoman in all areas of their life so they can live with fun, variety, spice and lightness. Do you believe books can change the world? Unquestionably. Books impact people whether it’s to lose themselves in fiction, learn from a business book, be inspired by someone’s story or become a better version of themselves. Jack Canfield’s book The Success Principles and Susan Jeffer’s Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway changed my world. What is your ultimate goal? To have people living adventurously, lots of variety and fun and lightness in their lives. To stop being part of society where you have to conform and be a certain way. Be a Unicorn! If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? One thing would be to get people to see the beauty in the world. There is a lot of fear and distrust with the world. I want people to see how important nature is for our wellbeing and see the beauty in themselves. What do you prefer? Beach or Mountains? Beach, love the sound, smell and roll of the ocean waves. Sand between the toes brings calmness and peace. Sweet or spicy? I like a bit of spicy but I would say more savoury then spicy and just a little bit of sweet occasionally. Window or aisle? Window, I love to look out the window through the clouds or the view as you leave and arrive. Ice-Cream or Custard? Ice Cream, mostly either vanilla or chocolate. Only in Summer. Dessert First or last? I don’t eat dessert generally, it would have to be really good dessert and it would be after a small main meal. |
What Ripple Effect Would you start in the world and why?
I would love to have people igniting their lives with fun, lightness and love. Having people realising that they are enough, to be comfortable in their own skin, that they have choices and when they do realise this the world opens up to become a place of opportunities, support and kindness. This all starts with myself, then helping others see the same and those others helping more and more people by living a life on their terms. |
