Mariko was born in Tokyo, Japan and currently lives in Brisbane, Australia. She grappled with ‘being different’, mistakenly believing her language and cultural challenges, as not ‘being enough’. This ‘not enoughness’ impacted her self-confidence, permeating into her way of living from job choices, friendship choices, and even her food choices.
When her daughter was 11 months old, Mariko was introduced to the process of programing positive words into the phone as an alarm system that went off every few hours. Reading these words every day on the screen lead her to write them first on paper, then to add decorations, and finally packing the sketchbook and pen as part of the nappy bag package. The reclamation of the Creative evolved into publications of 4 colouring books, and numerous art prints available for purchase online. The line art in the books hold the intention of uplifting the participants. They may be used for relaxation, creative expression, journaling prompts, to connect with family or friends, as a teaching tool, and many other ways. Mariko’s products are available on Lulu.com and Redbubble.com https://marikohulme.fyi.to/VisualMeditationArtist |
